Topic area of this paper mostly focuses on optical path of optical networks. Fist related developments and basic technologies are introduced. Then through theoretical analysis, simulation and practical proof, results that have engineering application value are obtained in following 2 aspects. One is focus on optical networks of signal mode fiber cable. From 2 sides, Technical methods and system design mathematics methods, ways of overcome limitation of relay distance of optical networks are discussed. The discussed limiting factors are expanded, from 2 parameters (namely, system attenuation and chroma dispersion) to 5 parameters (namely, system attenuation, chrome dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, optical signal to noise ratio and optical non-lineal influence). Application range of the system design mathematics methods is expanded, from point-to-point system with signal wavelength and no-optical amplifier to multi-wavelength mesh optical networks. The technical methods are straight means of overcome or improved limiting factors. The 3 sorts system design mathematics methods that include used the worst value design method, associated with vender design method and statistical design method, are concretely arithmetic of calculated maximal relay distance and are also distinguish tools of system limiting factors. Using the tools finds out the greatest factors of limiting relay distance, then taking corresponding technical methods overcomes or improves the limiting factors. Another is focus on wireless optical networks. Contraposed our country mainland atmospheric geographical status and used the worst value design method, space transmission link design algorithm of signal wavelength broad band atmospheric optical communications system is found.
