With the development of Internet, the' scale of information processing in computer software systems has continuously increased in the past several years. However, due to the inherent limitations of traditional distributed computing technologies, the distributed software systems become larger, slower, and more error-prone. The distributed object computing emerges in this situation as a new and promising solution approach. As the newest distributed object model, The Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) proposed by the Sun Microsystems Inc. has been adopted by the industry as the standard for the Web-based enterprise applications. In my thesis work, I took charge of designing and implementing the EJB 1.1 specification compatible container in the application server project. I designed the architecture of the EJB container and implemented the EJB API by adopting the wrapper class design pattern. Then I designed and implemented the transaction management, life-cycle management and persistency management of EJB component. This thesis is organized as follows. In the first section we introduce the background of distributed object computing and EJB model. The architecture of the EJB server and container are discussed in section 2 and 3. We describe the design of the wrapper class model in section 4. In section 5,6 and 7, we elaborate the implementation of life-cycle management, transaction management and persistence management respectively. We conclude this thesis with a concise remark in section 8.
