A distributed simulation software environment and applications for planar mechanical system kinematics based on CORBA using distributed object-oriented software techniques, multibody system kinematics, computer network techniques, database techniques is present in this thesis. The core of the system is software BUS of CORBA, through which, the client can post requests to server and get results from server. VisiBroker, which was developed by Inprise Corporation, is selected as BUS of this software platform. Access is used as database management system, C++ Builder and J++ Builder are used for client application development, FORTRAN language is used for modeling and numerical analysis on server, IDL is used for interface definition between client and core, and between core and server, OpenGL is used for graphic representation of results.Absolute coordinates are used to describe the positions, velocity and accelerations of mechanical systems. The mathematic model is a set of nonlinear algebraic equations of motion, which are solved through Newton-Raphson iteration method.A typical four-bar mechanism and a typical slide-crank mechanism are used for test of the distributed simulation environment and applications developed in this thesis. Only some fundamental parameters are posted to servers, which can complete modeling, numerical analysis, management, and animation simulation.
