Presently, most video surveillance system adopts analog video technology, but it brings about many inherent disadvantages in operation transmission~ storage and management as well. With the rapid development of digital Video-Audio compression/decompression technology~. computer network and information science, digital video surveillance system is becoming the first choice in modem society, in which real-time and first-hand digital monitoring is provides after video frames are captured by video cameras installed in various locations, and then transformed to digital images, which can be effectively archived on digital media after compression.This thesis describes a set of applicable video surveillance project based on low-speed channel such as MODEM, local network and so on. Because of enormous volume of video digital signal, this requires more advanced technique in video signal compression. Recently, Analog Devices Inc. developed a family of special video compressionldecotnpression chip based on Wavelet transformation~~ADVxx. This chip integrates the algorithms of coding and decoding in chip, which can accurately control the compression rate and compress many video signal formats, including PAL and NTSC. On the other hand, it can also obtain excellent image quality and high compression rate. In this paper, we make the best use of ADV6OILC fulfill the remote multimedia surveillance, which provides many advantages in implementing such system.Associated knowledge about Multimedia techniques is introduced firstly, and the theory~ internal structure of ADV6OILC chip are analyzed in detail. Then a set of remote multimedia surveillance system project based on ADV6OILC is provided, and the video matrix switcher and video image processing subsystem are presented expressly. Finally, the software design is given.
