In order to reduce the thermally induced optical distortions in diode-pumped Zig- Zag Nd:YAG slab; and in order to enhance the mobility of temperature-control system, the adiabatic technology of slab and the temperature-control method by means of phase change have been studied. The main results obtained in the thesis can be summarized as follows: 1. On the base of analyzing the thermal lensing effect caused by the temperature- gradient in direction of unpolished-face, a new type construction consisted of absorbing glass, transparent glass and heat sink has been designed for adiabatic structure of slab, and the experiment of thermal focal length of slab has been done. The result proves that the thermal lensing effect of slab has been improved due to adopt adiabatic construction. The focal length of 1 .93m in direction of unpolished- face has been measured from the slab with adiabatic construction, comparing with O.78m measured from the slab without adiabatic construction. 2. On account of the defects of thermal electricity temperature-control system, the research of temperature-control technique by means of phase change has been done. With ice as cold storage material, a new temperature-control apparatus by means of phase change has been produced. The experiment data approved that the new system could achieve temperature-control under 288W thermal power from I 90C to 450C.
