A Content-based Multimedia Retrieval And Query Language

Recent years, with the rapid progress of technologies of data compression, great capacity of storage, wide band networks and high speed computer, multimedia technology has become the hotspot of computer and communications industry. As an efficient means of information administration, database has become an important aspect of multimedia research. In the face of the immensity of information, people are eager to acquire informations needed rapidly and efficiently. Therefore, effective retrieval facilities are absolutely necessarily. Content-based retrieval has become the most active research problem in the field of multimedia information searches.In this paper, we first discusssed some key technologies of query and retrieval on multimedia database. Then we focus on content-based retrieval. Connected with Query by example, a content-based visual multimedia query language is designed, in which semantics expression, object-oriented expression are combined. This language, on one hand, can provide a visual query interface, on the other hand, can implement content-based multimedia query.
