Being as a typical adaptive structure, Adaptive Truss Structure (ATS) has some specifics on concept and feasibility, and a bright future in the application fields of aerospace and aviation. Control problem is one of the key techniques of ATS, around which the following points are focused in this paper. Firstly, the concept, principle and characteristics are studied, and then a proposed Control Scheme of ATS as well as the corresponding Control System Design is presented based on Adaptive-Fuzzy Control theoiy. Secondly, to meet the practical requirements of ATS, the control rules are optimized according to the functions of sensors/actuators and their distribution on host structure. Thirdly, the ATS control software system and some related programs are developed with LabView. Furthermore, using two different kind of sensors, Linear Displacement sensor and Low Frequency sensor, the control system is examined by a lot of experiments with an existed ATS model. The research results show us that the Control System proposed is feasible and suitable to the control of ATS described as a slowing varying system.
