| In die manufacturing industry, traditional detection methods and detection machines become the bottleneck of production because of their poor ability in speed and accuracy. Besides, traditional application of computer in product quality management, guarantee and control have been limited to monomial detection and quality control, which were hard to form a complete quality system, and integrate with CAD/CAPP/CAM system. Coordinate Measuring Machine is a kind of precise measuring instrument, which is characterized as large measuring space, high precision, better generality, higher flexibility and automated measurement. CMM is the main measuring instrument used in manufacturing industry, especially in aircraft and automobile manufacturing, to collect quality data and aid in quality control. CMM free form surface measuring based on CAD technique is the key to solve the above bottleneck. The paper focuses on the integration of CMM with CAD/CAM system. It aims at complex free form surface components; carries through inspection path planning based on CAD technique; uses post-processor to generate CMM measuring program, and automatic calculates measuring data's tolerance and generates report forms using OLE automation. The main contents covered in the paper are as follows: Design system architecture, analyze system requirements, and study the general framework of the system, its workflow and functional components. Present communication methods between PC graphic workstation and CMM, study the detailed of hardware connection and software implementation. Describe the data structure and its implementation concerning product data (inspection path and tool control point). Generate inspection path, classify measuring feature and path and present inspection path planning algorithm and post-processing method.Process measuring data automatically using OLE automation techniqueand generate report forms. |
