Forwarding engine is the key component of high performance core routers. This paPerdescribes the framework and mechanism of routers. Focusing on the routing function, theimplement of forwarding engine software sub-system of core router is introduced. Based oncomparison with nowaday forwarding engine scheme, a new a1gorithm is put fOrward in detail.Besides, real-time software development technique is discussed.
