In recent ten years, the low-dimensional quantum structures, such as quantum wells quantum wires and quantum dots, had potential technological application in the optical devices. Now, quantum wells laser have very excellent characteristic. The low-dimensional semiconductors are obtained by the growth technology that has been developed. In experiment and theory, the low-dimensional structures are researched. On the theoretical side, there have already been some calculations of the energy levels in the conduction and valence bands of one-dimensional structures. In this paper, We are based on the envelope-function model to discuss the conduction bands; we develop the theory of the nearly free electron approximation to research the valence bands. In utmost condition, the results correspond with the ones that we expected. The wave function overlap between conduction bands and valence bands predicts the possibility of the electronic transition. In this paper, the method is very simple; the idea is novel; the amount of calculation is very little. In some extent, this work can explicate some optical characteristics of one-dimensional quantum wires, can conduct the design of the optical devices.
