With the coming of information times, much images information will be encountered. It becomes a urgent task that how to organize, manage and retrieve images information efficiently. The method is proposed in this paper for the question that query is based on the image content in the environment of client/server. The computer network mode is firstly discussed. We have designed the image retrieval system under the mode of client/server It combines two interactive technologies together: one is World Wide Web and the other is relational database management system. We have designed the common gateway interface to combine the two parts closely, which is the core, difficulty and key of the image retrieval system. The interaction between human and computer has been well performed. The query by the image content (QBIC) is used as another key technology in our image retrieval system when the images are analyzed. The different retrieval methods, features extractions and image match methods according to the different images retrieval purposes are also presented. We choose tiK I~ocal er.~rgy model and phase congruency method as the solution of the symmetry m~asurement in the gray images, thus the question has been resolved through a new method. The experiments have shown that the system realizes both the retrieval and management of the image database under the client/server network mode successfully. We adopt Sambar Server V4.2 as web server software and Netscape 4.05 is used as browser software. Database management software is Microsoft(R) Access 97, and Microsoft Visual Basic5.O (32 bit professional) is used as the language of CGI programs. All programs are debugged successfully on be IBM PC 586 (233MHz).
