This paper is to develop the structural optimization on I-DEAS system,which belongs to one part of the project of 450t schnable car.Firstly,hydraulic lifting analysis of 450t schnable car is carried out,and static analysis on steel structure of the car body by using I-DEAS software as well. Thanks for allowance stress and displacement of the underframe,continuous structural optimization is made on it by means of the optimization functions of I-DEAS.A genetic algorithm for the engineering structural optimization is developed in this paper. Developed genetic operators are adopted based on former working. Regarding to the restricted optimization problem,quasi-exactness penalization function is developed to deal with constraint.Combine with I-DEAS,the genetic algorithm is applied to discrete structural optimization for the underframe. The numerical result shows good computing efficiency and accurate.
