Due to its potential of high spectrum efficiency, CR technology has gained more and more attention and is viewed as one of the most important technologies for the next generation wireless networks。In a cognitive radio network, the secondary users are allowed to utilize the frequency bands of primary users when these bands are not currently being used. To support this spectrum reuse functionality, the secondary users are required to sense the radio frequency environment, and once the primary users are found to be active, the secondary users are required to vacate the channel within a certain amount of time. Therefore, spectrum sensing is of significant importance in cognitive radio networks.Spectrum sensing is one of the most important and fundamental functionalities of cognitive radio. A method is proposed to maximize the throughput of cognitive radio user by optimizing the spectrum sensing time. Firstly, we design a spectrum sensing algorithm for the energy-constrained cognitive radio mechanism. We formulate this spectrum sensing problem, with the target of maximizing the throughput of the system.Secondly, in this paper, based on the framework which is proposed in chapter 3, we design an optimal framework model, which also take the time length distribution of the PU’s activity into account, subject to the detection probability and the false alarm probability. Simulations validate the proposed the framework.
