In recent years,massive earthquakes occur frequently at home and abroad,all of them have caused a great casualties and loss of property.According medium-and long-term earthquake forecasting,Guangdong Province and especially the Pearl River Delta Region,exists tectonic settings of leading to Ms6.0earthquakes more or less.So government departments should further strengthen the conscious and technological means against earthquake disaster.To reduce the earthquake disaster, It is important to get ready for defensive measures.The casualties of earthquake is mainly caused by the collapse of buildings.This paper elaborates the background and significance of setting up earthquake damage prediction system of structure for Zhongshan City,which basing on the seismic performance analysis of currently existing buildings.The methods of earthquake damage prediction of structure proposed by domestic and foreign experts are mentioned,in which the methods based on seismic intensity mainly used on large-scale of area about structure damage analysis.So it’s applicable to build similar system of cities.The present status of using earthquake damage prediction system in domestic cities are reviewed in the paper,following which author proposes ideas of setting up similar system of the region.On this basis,the paper utilises top-down and stepwise refinement methods,adopts structured method of software engineering,analyses the organizational structure and business of seismic work department of Zhongshan City,to find out the shortage of traditional investigation of earthquake loss.And then reengineer the original business process using transaction flow diagram.The reengineered processes has adjusted the damage investigation of buildings relied on manpower of original process to the one based on computer platforms,which greatly improves the efficiency of damage assessment of earthquake and the timeliness of results of analysis.According to the requirements of department and system,and using the principles of development technology on ArcGIS Engine platform, the paper analyses the requirements of function module and database.The relationship of every function module is described using layered data flow diagram(DFD).The system is divided into six function modules,which including drawing influence field of seismic intensityjudging the seismic intensity of structure,analyzing total damage of buildings,analyzing the economic losses of building structure,layers and attribute datas management,and system management.The paper explains every function module,process logic,data flow of I/O,and storage structure of data using data dictionary.Overall function structure of the system is described using "Hierarchy" diagram. On this basis,the paper has established the concept model of database using Entity-Relationship Diagram(E-R),and has designed the structure of database table.Finally,a summary about the research of the system is given in the article,together with some analyses about which needing to be improved of the system.
