ICCD cameras are widely used in military reconnaissance, night alarms, astronomical observation, aerospace science and technology. High quality images are the key to scientific applications. SNR is the most important parameter to characterize the noise characteristics, and the noise characteristics directly affect the size of the dynamic range. By manufacturing ICCD noise test system, SNR and dynamic range parameters are tested, which provide objective evidence for the analysis of noise properties. This paper category discusses the development process and working principle of low light level imaging device, focuses on the basic structure and working principle of ICCD, aims at testing standards and methods of the parameters of ICCD for in-depth research and theoretical analysis. On the basis of these theories, the noise test system of ICCD is specifically developed to achieve SNR and dynamic range testing. Uniform illumination system is designed to ensure uniformity of the output light; SNR test target is designed to achieve SNR test under the same gain; Signal acquisition system with analog video format is designed to achieve 14-bit precision signal acquisition. Based on the above hardware system, real-time video display and high-precision data acquisition is achieved by software programming with virtual instrument technology. On the platform of LabWindows/CVI software, SNR parameter is calculated according to SNR algorithm and stored in the database. Using intelligent radiation/illumination meter to calibrate the illumination of the test system, and then ICCD noise characteristics experiments is conducted to test SNR and dynamic range. The SNR of ICCD and CCD cameras is tested and compared with multiple sets of comparative experiments; Neutral density filters and variable aperture are adjusted to change the incident illumination, and SNR parameters under different illumination are obtained; Stability tests of SNR are conducted under the condition of invariant incident illumination and the SNR stability curves are obtained; The SNR graphs of ICCD and CCD cameras are compared to analyze the main noise source of the performance of imaging devices and the feasibility comments are proposed to improve ICCD cameras.
