Real-time video image enhancement is extensively needed in the military and civilian areas. It is often applied in traffic monitoring, battle-field monitoring, and airborne or space borne real-time remote sensing image processing. Thus, the researches of high integrated, high-performance image enhance platform and the realization of real-time image enhance algorithm is extremely valuable.This paper is based on the need of the real-time contrast enhancement of a CCD camera line scan image.In this paper, multi-scale detail reserved image enhancement algorithm and development of image enhancement platform are researched. Then, the algorithm is optimized for real-time realization. The main work of this paper are as follows:1. Histogram equalization with its improved algorithm, and SSR, MSR algorithm is simulated and compared in this paper. Then, a multi-scale details reserved image enhancement algorithm is proposed, which combines the advantages of the two types of algorithms.2. One signal processing sub-board is developed, which uses Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA as its core processor. The main steps of sub-board development are schematic diagram design, PCB design, welding and hardware debugging. Then, the whole image enhancement platform is established.3. Finally, the FPGA program of image enhancement algorithm is completed and tested on the image enhancement platform. Functional and performance testing are also completed.
