In this paper, a more comprehensive RV reducer design theory is put forward based on existing RV reducer design theory. In addition, a research on RV-20E reducer made by Teijin Company is carried out. The process and method about the trial of RV reducer is proposed after a detailed study on its structure and material. Finally, the performance of the prototype verifies the thesis by comparing to the test of the reducers made by the Teijin Company, which further demonstrates the feasibility of the method.The main work is listed as follows:(1) The working principle and the structure of RV reducer are systematically analyzed. To begin with, the transmission principle and feature is analyzed, and the freedom about the transmission ratio of RV reducer is also solved.(2) A parameter design theory of RV reducer based on the weights theory is put forward. In this part, quantitative analysis is done on how the error of design parameters transmitting to the backlash. Then a sensitivity analysis is made and the largest one among them is picked out. Parameter design theory of RV reducer is put forward based on the weights theory which provides a theoretical guidance for tolerance design of RV reducer.(3) A virtual model about the reducer of RV-20E is built by Solid Works. Modal analysis is done by importing the model into ANSNY Workbench environment. The result provides technical support in revealing the inherent characteristics of RV reducer.(4) The processing technology of some key parts in RV reducer is proposed after a careful analysis of RV reducer produced by the Teijin Company. This theory provides technical guidance for the manufacturing of RV reducer.The theory about how to manufacture a prototype of RV reducer is introduced, which includes parametric design,3D modeling, and simulation analysis and craft research used in industrial robots. The theory based on weights is the innovation in the thesis. The feasibility of this method is demonstrated by the theoretical analysis and experimental study. The method has some directive functions in designing the parameters of RV reducers.
