Anisotropic medium has been more and more widely used in the fields ofelectromagnetics as the research proceeds deeper and deeper. At present, reportsabout the waveguide filled with anisotropic medium are relatively scarce. In thispaper, based on the fundamental electromagnetic theory, propagationcharacteristic, dispersion characteristic and single-mode bandwidth ofanisotropic medium-filled waveguide and ridge waveguide are analyzed by thefinite difference time domain (FDTD) method.Firstly, the FDTD method is briefly summarized, and the constitutiverelation of anisotropic medium is introduced in detail. The difference equationsof FDTD method in anisotropic medium has been derived with spatialinterpolation method. Electromagnetic field iterative formula has been obtained. The numerical stability condition of FDTD method, the condition of mediuminterface, and choice of the excitation source have been discussed.Secondly, the propagation characteristic of anisotropic medium-filledrectangular waveguide and effect of the medium thickness on the cutofffrequency have been calculated, and the comparison with their theoretical valuehas been demonstrated. proving the validity of our program. Dispersioncharacteristic and single-mode bandwidth of the rectangular waveguide filledwith different shapes double anisotropic medium have been analyzed. Finally, the single-mode bandwidth of single ridged waveguide and doubleridged waveguide filled with double anisotropic medium has been calculated byFDTD method, and the effect of the dominant mode bandwidth related with themedium size has also been analyzed. The factors related with the characteristicparameters have been summarized.
