Due to the high definition, low power consumption, zero irradiation, long duration and small volume etc., LCD has become a main stream display device. Display mode of LCD mainly contains ECB, TN, IPS and MVA etc.MVA dominates the large display area because of its outstanding characteristics such as high definition, wide viewing angle and fast response. However, it is a must to construct complicated structures on electrodes and ITO layer, i.e. embossing and slim seams, which enhances the cost and complication of manufacture. Worse still, the difficulties to match the embossing and slim seams reduce the yield of manufacture. Therefore, it has become a hot spot in many researches to avoid these structures.AIFF-MVA mode avoided the complicated and expensive embossing structure in conventional MVA mode and utilized boundary electric field to control LC molecules. This mode reduces the cost and increases the yield greatly as well as enhances the viewing angle, brightness and contrast ratio compared with conventional MVA mode. Unfortunately, black grains appeared in AIFF-MVA LCD, which induced the increasing of power consumption, thus restricts further progress of this display mode. This thesis introduces the basic theories of LCD and algorithms of computer simulation firstly, and then displays the simulation results of the electro-optic characteristic of ECB and TN mode LCD with MATLAB. The results perfectly matched experiments results of the orientation of LC molecules and the V-T curve of practical LC cell. Subsequently, AIFF-MVA mode was simulated to analyze the impact of pixel electrode size and pixel interval size on the black grain alongside the boundary of LC cell. Finally, an integrated improvement of black grain and total transmission rate was made, i.e. an optimized design of pixel electrodes. Reliability of the consequence was proved by comparing simulation results with practical experiments.
