Since it's born, computer network has been continually absorbing new technologies, Providing new services, in order to serve users more preferably. With the network applications become more and more plentiful, the number of web users also growing rapidly. At the same time, the network applications become more and more sophisticated and the bandwidth requirement of those applications are greatly increased. Because of these factors together, the network bandwidth resources become extremely rare, and even can not meet the demand of the existing applications. In fact, there will be a long term contradiction between the huge demand for communication bandwidth and the limited resources that the network can provide. As a measure to effectively deal with this conflict, Qos has been introduced. QoS contains two classic models-Intserv and Diffserv, both have their advantages and disadvantages, and respectively for different applications. The implementation of QoS depends on the support of network node devices, that each node device has to provide a concrete implementation of specific QoS model. As the core devices on the network, network switches of course need to support QoS service. This paper describes the design and implementation of Diffserv based QoS on Ethernet switch. At the same time, with the development of microelectronics technology and ever-increasing chip integration, functionality that must achieved through several chips can now only be achieved through one single chip. The single-chip design has many advantages compared with traditional multi-chip design, such as low cost, high speed, much easier for system development and so on. The network switch mentioned in this paper is based on the single-chip solution. In this paper, we first elaborated the Development of QoS technology, then we gave the theoretical basis of QoS, after that the single-chip design of network switch are introduced with a comparison with the traditional multi-chip design. Then we focuses on the QoS design and implementation of network switches, and proposed a network security design which is based on QoS technology. Finally, we give the test methods and test results of QoS functionality, these results indicate that the system achieves the desired purpose.
