With personalized viewing demands of Chinese audience rapidly growing, increasingly importance has been attached to the video on demand system (VOD) based on the digital television. But problems are still unsolved during its development, such as obsolete programs resources, single viewing methods and lack of user interaction, which are far cry from meeting the demand of audience. In addition, the system can't afford unified and open interfaces, and it is difficult to implement the system business expansion, cross-platform support and the third-party value-added applications integration. This greatly hinders the further development of the cable industry. With the development of tri-networks integration, Telecommunication companies participate in the fierce competition of radio and television business, which makes the cable video on demand business facing more challenges. Therefore, to built a technical platform with strong vitality which can meet the needs of users will be an important task for cable industry.Firstly, this article analyzes the development of VOD, the advantages of interactive VOD business and the cable TV network design transmission system architecture based on HFC, designs core functions and system processes of interactive business such as catch-up TV and program reservation. On this basis, it analyzes overall structure and subsystems division of interactive VOD system based on ISA services architecture. It makes deeper study on business management system, session and resource manager, asset management system, and deploys video server, time displacement acquisition equipment, application server. Aiming at a variety of features of Interactive services, and using protocols such as HTML/HTTP, FTP, LSCP, it provides detailed design to Pause Live,nPVR. Finally, the VOD system based on HFC network comes true. After practical tests from a certain area in Beijing, it was proved that the system achieved the desired effects.
