As the development and evolution of information technology, the world of telecommunication has been in an era that multiple networks exist simultaneously. Facing the complex situation of networks, multi-mode compatible technology can provide quality services and enhance market competition. Research on multi-mode technology will not only promote the evolution of communication technology, but also choose high performance communication system with the help of market competition.The objective of this paper is to design and implement a hardware experimental platform for research on common multi-mode technology. The platform architecture bases on ARM 11 processor, providing serial port,JTAG,Ethernet for research aim; audio recorders, video recorders for application aim;GSM,TD-SCDMA and WCDMA wireless modules for communication aim.The major tasks of the paper include:1.Functional requirements analysis on multi-mode smart terminal, design parameters determination and platform architecture construction including system framework and physical structure.2.Schematic design details for each functional module of hardware platform, including power modules,microprocessor,clock setting,FLASH,DDR RAM, Ethernet port,USB,wireless module interface,keyboard,MMC card interface and connectors between core board and supported board.3.PCB design based on EMC of platform,including device packaging, layout, stacked design, segmentation of power plane and routing, etc.4.Test parameters of each function module based on the stability of power module and compare parameters with the design objective.The result of comparison proves that the hardware platform designed in this paper meets the design objective. It supports multi-mode network and operating system.Each functional module and interface of the platform work stability. The hardware platform can be used in common multi-mode technology research.
