At present, fingerprint identification is the key field of biometrics identification, and has been widely used in identification. Fingerprint identification technology involves in various domains, such as the image processing, pattern recognition, digital and signal processing, computer technology, microprocessors, and so on. The study of fingerprint recognition system has the practical significance and theoretical value. Fingerprint capture system which is based on hardware platform of DSP/BIOS and fingerprint preprocessing algorithm is studied in this paper. The main works are presented as follows:The fingerprint enhancement, the binaryzation of the fingerprint, and the typical algorithm of fingerprint thinning are compared after reviewing of fingerprint identification technology and the preprocessing algorithm, so that the advantages and disadvantages of the classical algorithm are concluded, and the theoretical framework is provided for the fingerprint image preprocessing improvement algorithm.Owing to poor enhancing effect when processing the low quality of fingerprint image enhancement by the Gabor filter, a new adaptive Gabor filtering based on orientation domain and frequency domain fingerprint image enhancement algorithm is presented. To enhance the fingerprint image, the consistency of image orientation and average ridge frequency are calculated in order to adaptively adjust the windows size of the Gabor filter. Simulation results show that the new algorithm has greatly improved the accuracy of the orientation for low quality of fingerprint image. Due to many burr produced in the thinning fingerprint image, an OPTA fingerprint thinning improvement algorithm based on neighborhood search is proposed in which the delete template and the keep one are designed and refined as a unique model of table look-up and index by taking OPTA algorithm as the core idea. Simulation results show that the processed fingerprint image is smooth and has the complete thinning, the skeleton close to the center of grain line and no burr.Based on DSP/BIOS, The fingerprint capture system is designed to capture the real-time fingerprint. Then, Fingerprint image preprocessing improvement algorithm is transplanted into DSP. Finally, the whole system is proved to be superior by analyzing and contrasting the experiment results.
