With the popularization and the development of Internet, many new applications of wide band service appeared. People pay more attentions to IPTV directing service. But it also brings some problems, such as the band width sudden consumption and the network crowded. And then people propose a new topic: what way to realize IPTV directing service could take the least band width and it is also the most highly effective. In order to solving these problems, people proposed some plans. Comparing with each plan, the IP multicast technology is the best way to solve those problems. This method is not increase the band width when user increasing. Its this characteristic make low costs, and make it to be applied in many new technologies. It will also fit for the new demands of new development.The realization of IPTV directing service mainly uses the multicast technology, and it relies on the multicast routing protocol which is supported in the network equipment (the PIM protocol and so on), IGMP protocol, IGMP proxy protocol and so on.An IGMP proxy is proposed and developed and it saves more network band width then the traditional IGMP proxy. This system is work on the embedded platform which has the function of IGMP snooping, and it is designed to realize the multicast technology with the advanced IGMP version. So sharply growth of network flow can be avoided, and makes fully use of network resource. In the environment of the large-scale application of multicast routing agreement for IPTV directing service, it manages the existence end network (the end of multicast tree, that is to say the subnet which only connects to the multicast client). Now the IGMP snooping can not satisfy the requirement of IPTV directing service, and the IGMP proxy based on the IGMP snooping takes the advance both of IGMP snooping and IGMP proxy. This can solved the problem, it causes the multicast to be used more widespread, and the multicast function is more complete.The result of testing indicated that this IGMP proxy that supports IGMP V2 edition makes the network resource to be used effectively.
