Nowadays, the density of Integrated curcits(IC) gets a very high development with the improvement of VLSI technology, and more and more functions can be implemented by an IC. The VLSI design method is entering system on chirp (SoC) age. In academe field, researchers have proposed many research results of SoC, and in industry area, many products for SoC applications have been provided. However, there are key challenges, including power, global clock, extendibility and reliability, for SoC designs when the VLSI techenology enters deep sub micrometer area, and these factors are becoming the bottleneck for SoC. Thus, NoC technology is proposed to improve the performance of SoC technology. In order to achieve performance for NoC, many schemes are proposed. According to our research, we try to use network coding (NC) in the physical layer of NoC, to improve the data throughput and reduce the transfer power of NoC.According to the research purpose, we propose a NoC architecture with local bus, and network coding can be used in this structure. In the proposed architecture the process elements are connected with the logical network, which is established with interconnected local one way buses. The proposed architecture inherits the advantages both bus and traditional NoC, and provides the possibility for NC. In our research, we design test platform combine with the service model which satisfies the effective condition of network coding to prove the feasibility and validity of using network coding on NoC. In this paper, we carry out theoretical analysis, implementation and verification. At first we introduce the fundmental theory of network coding, then according to the base theory to design the NoC architecture which satisfies the condition of network coding. We also design the NoC test platform with local bus to simulate and analyse the test result. At last, we introduce the mapping algorithm with genetic algorithm for the proposed NC-NoC architecture, and we design the test platform to simulate and analyse the mapping performance. From the analysis and case studies, we find that network coding can be used in the NoC with local bus, and can enhance the data throughput and reduce the transfer power of NoC.
