As the development of information industry, the wireless communication systems are required to be more and more efficient. For the important role of RF power amplifiers in wireless communication system, it has become aroused general interest that how to design a well performance RF power amplifiers. In this thesis, the principles and design methodology of the switching-mode Class E high efficiency RF power amplifier have been analyzed in detail. The main contents of the study are listed as follows:First, it is analyzed that the design procedure of classic Class E power amplifier and lumped components are used in the impedance matching networks, a switch mode Class E power amplifier is designed at the frequency of 500MHz, the amplifier achieves drain efficiency of 74.91%, exhibits 11.21dB power gain, 36.21dBm output power when operated from a 8.4V supply voltage.Second, a structure of impedance matching networks using TLines is studied, and a Class E power amplifier is designed at the frequency of 1GHz is designed, it achieves drain efficiency of 70.51%, exhibits 8.58dB power gain, 33.58dBm output power when operated from a 5.8V supply voltage. At last, as the mainly study has completed, further analysis of its key indicators, and then the reasons that why the indicators of the actual test case is unsatisfying is pointed out, and the future research directions is summed up.Overall, it is a broad space for development of RF power amplifier, only by designing RF power amplifiers which have higher efficient and better performance; it will be meeting in the rapid development of information technology in our society.
