In recent years, as a new network technology, Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN) has gradually emerged, and becomes an important part of the next generation Internet due to its obvious advantages over other wireless networks. Multi-Radio Wireless Mesh Networks (Multi-Radio WMN) are gaining more popularity owing to making full use of the spectrum, a new way to advance the capacity of networks has been exploited as the result of the multi-channel of each node in the network, therefore, Multi-Radio WMN has become the research focus of the next generation communication networks. On the other hand, wireless routing technologies are required on the up-and-up in WMN. However, the wireless medium, being shared, creates the hurdle of congestion and the reuse of a same channel across multiple hops causes co-channel interference in WMN, which lead to lower routing performance. Thus, a new research on routing protocol which based on path interference and congestion is practice. In this paper, we propose a new joint interference and congestion aware multi-path routing protocol applied to multi-radio WMN. Firstly, we analyze two important factors: intra congestion of node and co-channel interference, which affect routing performance seriously, and then make classification to the channel's diversity, which values the interference caused by reuse of a same channel, and introduces the time of packets waiting to be transmitted to estimate the transmitting ability of nodes and the congestion degree of links produced by the wireless medium being shared, which routing criterion is based on. Routing criterion values the affection to routing path in different networking environment. We adopt multi-path routing and use a control algorism to obtain independent paths. A precedence mechanism based on starting time is also raised to assure stability of routing. The performance of algorism in different networking environment is analyzed in simulation, and it shows that the routing protocol proposed in the paper performs well in great congestion and interference area of network scene whose nodes are serried. Simulation validates that our protocol has validity and feasibility.
