The 21st century is a age of network information. With the popularization and development of network in colleges and universities, network has already became an indispensable component of their life, which is not only an important channel for college students to acquire knowledge and information, but also a major way for them to exchange their free minds and emotions. Network exerts a wide and profound influence on college students'learning, life and way of thinking, which attacks against the traditional way of ideological and political education in a direct way. It is the development of modern technology that makes possible the ideological and political education for college students based on network. It is also an expression of innovation in the ideological and political education for college students in new situations faced by us today. Based on a survey for college students, this thesis attempts to analyze new opportunities and challenges brought by network in ideological and political education for college students. Network, on the one hand, has enriched resources in ideological and political education for college students and innovated a new method of ideological and political education for college students; On the other hand, network has produced a huge impact on contents and traditional way of teaching in ideological and political education. Though many universities, at present, have established their own campus net and have made some explorations on network-based ideological and political education, we must be quite award of issues in current network-based ideological and political education in colleges and universities, which includes existence late construction of network-based ideological and political education platform, low visiting rates for ideological and political education websites, lack of specialties in network-based ideological and political education. The major reason is that they don't take seriously the network-based ideological and political education; Backward construction of ideological and political education websites cannot satisfy colleges students' need; Systematic and in-depth research into network-based ideological and political education is seldom conducted; there is no effective and motivated constraint mechanism for the network-based ideological and political educators. We, therefore, must make innovations in college network-based ideological and political education, change way of thinking, raise awareness, hold correct concepts about network-based ideological and political education, following the principle of educating and serving people, and strengthen websites construction in college network-based ideological and political education in a comprehensive way. We must also make innovations in contents and methods of network-based ideological and political education, improve faculty in the Ideological and political education, and provides talents for the college network-based ideological and political education. Only in this way can we occupy a position in the network-based ideological and political education, and make network a significant media in promoting ideological and political education.
