The higher education is such an industry which the input is very heavy but the output is very difficult to be accurately quantified. Measuring the effectiveness of a regional higher education has always been a challenge. This thesis used data envelopment analysis (DEA) model, according to the economics about the definition of return of scale to measure the relative efficiency of higher education. And place the higher education of Yunnan province in the context of the country and western to estimate the relative efficiency of input and output. The aims of this thesis is generally gaining the insufficiencies in the development of Yunnan higher education and providing reference to it. The thesis includes three parts.Firstly, the thesis researches the relevant theories, including the definition of relative concept and theoretical support of evaluation methods. First of all, it introduces several different views of the efficiencies of higher education. Subsequently, it explains the meaning and features of the higher educations'inputs and outputs. Then, the argumentation methods involved are recounted theoretically. This part lays the theoretical framework to analyze the input-output efficiency in higher education.Secondly, it introduces the foundation of input-output index system about higher education. Combined with the research literature and the characteristics of the development of higher education, the thesis establishes two sets of index system of higher education, and introduces the data types and sources of the research.Thirdly, the thesis recounts the evaluation of input-output of higher education of Yunnan. This thesis uses data envelopment analysis of the non-Archimedean infinitesimal model, and respectively puts Yunnan higher education to countrywide and the western region, while evaluating under different index system. Then system analyzes the problems along the development of Yunnan higher education, and explores the cause and provides a reference suggestion.Finally, this thesis points out the insufficiency in the research and the problems which need to be researched further.
