With the popularization of higher education, the reform of the employment system and the influence of the global financial crisis, employment pressure has become a problem for graduate students (mainly graduates), which will have an impact on their occupational values and options. As a member of the special groups, a graduate student in our society has a higher knowledge level and cultural quality. Thus, their employment status will not only influence their personal development but also will directly affect the development and progress of our society. Graduate students are faced with the employment problems. This paper seeks to find a suitable way to help them to think and explore their employment viewpoints and guide them to adjust their employment expectation and position, which will in turn have a crucial benefit to promote their employment.Shanghai is a city with the fastest economic growth in China. Undoubtedly, Shanghai local colleges and universities are to bear the responsibility of popularizing higher education in the city. The employment problem of college students is mostly a problem faced by local college students. In this paper, graduate students from five special local colleges and universities are chosen for study. The method of literature review, questionnaire and interview are applied to focus on the design and research of post-graduates' employment expectation. Research questions of this thesis are listed as follows: 1. What is the status quo of Shanghai local college post-graduates' employment expectation? 2. Which factors will have an impact on their employment expectation? 3. How to guide them to sensibly adjust their employment expectation and position? The findings of the survey show that the graduate students' employment expectation has changed a lot during the process of job-hunting. They find themselves embroiled in the conflicts between the ideal and reality, the popular education and the traditional employment values. They also find that there is a huge gap between the needs of their personal development and social development, and there also lies differences between their personal quality and employment options. Their employment expectation is tend to change from "waiting to be employed" to "self-promotion", from "always on the top" to "tendency for decline". Thus, based on the rational value of science and the ideal of people-oriented, post-graduates need their individual efforts and contribution from school and society to adjust their employment expectation. Policy-makers should loosen the household registration system and stimulate the employment policy to promote the rational flow of talents. College education should focus on the cultivation of graduate students' ability and overall quality by strengthening the concept of career education and practical activities. As for the post-graduates, they need to change their employment value timely and make their career-planning rationally, and strive to find the balance between ideal and reality.
