Tibet is one of the important border areas of China, playing a necessary role of safeguarding national unification, unity, and maintaining stability in border areas. However, due to the limitation of historical and natural condition, the economic and social development of Tibet still ranks a lower level comparing with other areas around China, and becomes a depressed area with a larger scale. The badly backward development of education is the essential reason making Tibet face so many economic and social problems, which has already become the key element to limit the development in Tibet. The education in Tibet is as always attracted attentions nationwide, for it is relevant to improve the quality of the Tibetan people, and the economic and social development in Tibet. Since the liberation in Tibet, especially after the Reform and Opening up, as the nation strengthens the support to education, the education in Tibet has achieved great progress obviously: the conditions in all types of school at all levels have been improved continuously, the teacher forces have been strengthened, the education funding have been increased, the quality of education has been enhanced constantly, and the education system has been improved. Furthermore, as the nation carried out the "Two Basic Educational Principles" and implemented the "Three Guarantees" policy for the compulsory education in Tibet, the senior high school education becomes the bottle-neck for popularizing and improving the compulsory education in Tibet. Whereas, as the high school education in Tibet highlights more and more problems gradually, there are neither some relevant studies and researches correspondingly, nor someone analyzing and studying the development of senior high school education in Tibet from the perspective of functional theory, and putting forward some relevant measures.According to the spot investigation of the compulsory education and high school education in Tibet, this thesis aims to analyze the "bottle-neck" of the Tibetan education currently and in the future, to know the status quo of the high-school-level education in Tibet with its existing problems, and to discuss what kind of countermeasures should be taken.Firstly, in the foreword, this thesis gives a brief introduction on the aspects of the origin of this writing, the significance of this research topic, and also the theoretic foundation, the perspective, methods and process of the research; besides, this thesis also carries out a summary and review of some relevant literatures and researches in this foreword part.In ChapterⅠ, the thesis mainly introduces the history and the status quo of the senior high school education in Tibet: it describes the education in Tibet before the liberation, as well as the senior high school education and the status quo after the liberation in detail. Moreover, it also introduces three models of the senior high school education in Tibet recently: regional general high school education, regional vocational senior high school education and the Tibet Classes in the hinterland.ChapterⅡ, from the perspective of the functional theory, gives an analysis and thinking of the high-school-level education in Tibet.Based on the field research, the ChapterⅢfinds out the problems that the senior high school education in Tibet is facing.Combined with the investigation and analysis in the previous two chapters, ChapterⅣbrings forward some corresponding measures to the Tibet Autonomous Region Government, the Education Administrative Department and the School with the Tibetan Classes respectively, expecting to provide several references to the development of the senior high school education in Tibet. The ChapterⅤgives a sum-up of the whole thesis, expounding on its contribution and shortage.
