| It was the famous psychologist Mihalyi Csikszentmihalyi that first proposed Flow Theory to the world, and then significant researches related to it had been conducted in various areas. The most important concept of flow theory--flow has been a focus of much research involving psychology and education. Findings suggest that flow does exist in the foreign language classroom and contribute to optimal performance and learning in language study.Taking English teaching for example, the thesis conducts research on the relationship between flow and performance of primary school students, the main tasks of this thesis include:(1) According to Row State Scale, this article works out the Flow State Scale of Primary School Student. This questionnaire aims to test the flow of primary school students in classroom. It uses the proper language of primary school student to make sure they would understand all the items. After several times of testing and retesting in primary school, the results finally show that it is good enough to test the flow of primary school students.(2) The thesis analyzes relationship between students' flow and their learning performance. The study selects 964 primary school students from grade 1, grade 3 and grade 5 as subjects, discusses the difference of flow between high score group and low score group within the same grade. The study also discusses difference of flow within high score groups in 3 grades and difference of flow within low score groups in 3 grades.(3) This thesis establishes a new method of teaching aiming to create learner's flow, named Flow Teaching Method. Using Flow Teaching Method, the thesis conducts a test in real classroom and analyzes the test results. Findings suggest that Flow Teaching Method would arouse learner's flow and therefore improve their performance.The thesis draws the following conclusions:(1) The students' flow of different grades doesn't have any difference, but differences do exist on the clear goal level and altered sense of time level.(2) The students' performance in English class is significantly influenced by flow.(3) Students' flow can highly promote the performance of students in English class.(4) Flow Teaching Method can highly promote the performance of students in English class. |
