Modern Hangzhou Church School Study

Church schools belong to the special educational form in modern China, which were founded by western religious groups and missionaries and owned many types. With the Church schools analyzed, the paper comprehensively and systematically illuminates the process of Church schools' foundation, development and disappearance. Based on typical research, I dwell on the school-forming condition, which included primary schools, high schools and vocational schools in Hangzhou. It is especially concerned that church schools impacted on the education, economy and society at last. The paper shows that church schools in Hangzhou was later than that founded in coastal cities and regions,which trade were forced to foreigners, but have built up the all-round educational system from primary to high school and university, with newly educational system, educational management system and curriculum arrangement followed, in a word, church schools had profound impact on Modern education, economic and social development in Hangzhou.
