As a culture phenomenon, picture reading has permeated every aspect of social life. It goes without saying for the typical visual sense culture of film,TV,advertisement and cartoon. The traditional reading materials, from newspaper to magazine, from outside reading to textbook, the proportion of pictures has goes up quickly. These pictures conquer the readers greatly. They affect people's life by their unique charm. Many scholars say: The"picture reading times"has entered the 21st century. As the most basic subject, Chinese teaching in high school bears the task of improving students'reading ability and attainment. It can't avoid the assault of picture reading to text reading. It is a important subject in Chinese teaching field how to deal with this situation.The article tries to study the picture reading of Chinese teaching in two aspects of theory and practice. The logical order is: the background of the question——the inevitability and feasibility of picture reading——the general plan of picture reading——the question we should pay attention to in the process of carrying out the picture reading.In the background of"Picture Reading times", Chinese teaching circles have two different opinions towards the beautiful pictures. One opinion is to support. They think the colourful picture resources can be used to improve teaching. The other is to resist. They think picture reading lacks the depth of thought. It can limit the imagination and creation of students. It can also weaken the reading ability of students. It is no use to improve Chinese ability.This article discusses the inevitability of strengthening picture reading from many points of view in Chinese teaching. It thinks that picture reading in Chinese education is the inevitable outcome of the developnent of history;"Picture reading"and"text reading"have no difference in origin. Picture reading is necessary for Chinese teaching. It's decided by real life that picture reading comes into Chinese teaching. Picture reading is the inevitable demand for men's development. It is the real demand for Chinese teaching. It's also the inevitable demand for Chinese course reform. At the same time, it analyses the condition of feasibility in carrying out picture reading. The plentiful picture resources give great convenience and possibility to its use in Chinese teaching. The communication between picture reading and Chinese teaching provide premise. The modern information technology provide hardware support for picture reading in Chinese teaching.Picture and words are all symbols. They have their own characteristics. The image,lifelike and audio-visual are the picture's advantages. These advantages attract teenagers deeply. The advantages of picture have not got enough attention and development. So, picture reading should be strengthened in Chinese teaching. Pictures should be used to arouse the reading interest of students. It can also be used to improve the class teaching and improve the attainment of students. At the same time, we should understand clearly the limitations of picture reading.The basic opinion of this article is : we should approve the effect of promotion and pay attention to the development and uses of picture resources. At the same time, we should make clear the position of assistance of picture reading. We can't make the secondary supersedes the primary. That is to say, we can't use"the pictures"to instead"the texts", and we should use"the pictures"to improve"the texts". They can help each other and strengthen the effect of Chinese teaching.
