This paper makes an investigation on civic awareness education being carried out in thought-character lessons in junior high school. Curriculum target and content of civic awareness education have been analysed in terms of those of 2nd Curriculum Change. It has been proposed that target of civic awareness education should be laid out with the combination of knowledge and technique, method and process, emotion, attitude and values. Civic awareness education, planted in the existing junior high school education materials, has been discussed specifically. In addition, the method of effectively carrying out civic awareness education has been considered. Teachers should be well aware of the great importance of civic awareness education in thought-character lessons, their core roles in such education and the principle status of their students. Several teching modes in civic awareness education have been discussed and compared, including demonstration, participation, character-building and research learning. As to how to enhance civic awareness education, the author lays emphasis on civil rights, building up the ranks of teachers and teaching based on real life situation. Moreover, some enligtments from foreign education on civic awareness have been mentioned. |
