The research activity for course instruction takes important role in promoting subject development, improving the quality of teachers and their teaching. Because of the limitation of time, place and fund, the efficiency of the traditional form of research for course instruction is not high efficient. As the development of modern information technology, there are more and more online research activities for course instruction. The distance education is the source of online research activities for course instruction, so the distance education institution has their own special advantages to do it. Since the beginning of Talent Cultivation Mode and Open Education Pilot Programme, China Central Radio and TV University (CRTVU) has actively explored the new form of online (virtual) research activities for course instruction. But there are many problems that need to be studied. For example, what is current situation of online research activities for course instruction in CRTVU, the behaviors of teacher in the activities, how to organize the online activities, and so on.The aim of teaching and researching is to promote teachers' professional development. For distance education, online research for course instruction is an effective method to improve teachers' development in distance education. In this research the study content includes the current situation of online research activities for course instruction, the content discussed by teachers and their behaviors of teacher in online activities.In the research, the researcher investigates and summaries the existing studies of online research for course instruction and related fields by literature study. For study the content and behaviors of online research activities for course instruction, the content analysis is taken. The current situation is surveyed through observation, questionnaire and conversation. The case study is taken to analyze the specific condition.The results of study indicate that teachers are satisfying with online research activities for course instruction. But there are several aspects that need to be improved, such as the management, the degree of participation and the effectiveness. In the aspect of discussion content of online research activities for course instruction, there are many discussions about examination evaluation, the problems of teaching, course management and so on. The discussions about course knowledge, problems of students learning and online learning resource are not enough. The teachers' behaviors of online research for course instruction include management behavior, emotion express and cognitive behaviors of knowledge construction. The organizers of online research activities for course instruction take vital important role in the whole process. Every kind of participant teachers has different expression of action. The active participant core teachers do the most contribution for online research activities for course instruction.On the base of the results, the author put forward some proposal to improve online research activities for course instruction, and simply discuss on teachers' professional development in Radio and TV University.
