The obvious difference between the English Curriculum Criteria for the senior middle school and the former English Teaching Syllabus lies in the great increase of the vocabulary amount. What's more, the English Curriculum Criteria particularly emphasizes the teaching of learning strategies to get students to form good study habits and develop their learning strategies effectively in order to lay a good foundation for their future development and life-long learning. This project has made an investigation on 426 students of Senior Two from the three schools of different levels in Nanjing City. Through the investigation, we have found that the students of Senior Two have a generally low level of using English vocabulary learning strategies, especially the meta-cognitive strategy, the cognitive strategy and the memorizing strategy. We have carried out an experiment on 34 subjects, based on the results of many people's research on English vocabulary learning strategies, training them to grasp the English vocabulary learning strategies. The result shows that training students to grasp the English vocabulary learning strategies helps improve their strategies, thus facilitating their English study and improving their English level. |
