Various clubs have come forth in cities in recent years, and more and more people have join in them. Why people care for clubs? For my thesis, I could not research each club, and I could not presume that all clubs are homogenous. Therefore, I limited my research to a badminton club in Beijing. The club has more than 1000 members. Playing badminton is the main activity in the club, and else games are supplementary. BBS is the main communication tool to connect with the members.This thesis explores the reason that people join in the club. Meanwhile, the thesis seeks to why clubs are becoming increasingly popular in contemporary society and how Chinese culture affects the process of self-identity. The thesis is an anthropological case interpretation on the above questions. Moreover, I want to learn transformation of gender ideas and complexity of gender-identity.The thesis discusses the process of self-identity through the identity culture in the club and the interaction between members. The main rationales using to analyses are constitutive view of identity and the theory on culture and self.
