Entering into 21^st century, the political and ideological education of colleges and universities is facing new situation and how to enhance its effectiveness in the new century is the real problem that everyone who are engaged in the research of its theory and practice will face and try to solve. Guided by Marxist materialistic interpretation of history, and according to the new century's demand, drawing on scientific research methods from macroscopic and microcosmic angles this thesis analyzes the new situation in colleges and universities'political and ideological education and generalizes the means to enhance its effectiveness. The whole paper, about 40,000 words, besides preface and postscript, is divided into four parts.Part 1 is about that the new age requires reinforcing the political and ideological education of colleges and universities and increasing its effectiveness. Based on the advantages and challenges, after 30 years development, our country makes prominent progress in the socialist modernization drive. With China's international status raises, and the society stabilizes, the reform in higher education pushes and ensures colleges and universities'students political and ideological senses in a healthy and upright state which is a good start point for its further development. Meanwhile, challenges from western countries, like"westernization"and"separatism"influence a lot on the new generalization. Socialism is temporarily at the low tide which brings negative influence to the university students and the problems and difficulties emerged the domestic reformation baffled them.
