Fiction is one of the literature styles, which focuses on the depiction of the personality and reflects social life by its complete plot development and setting description. Fictions in the ancient times, as the carriers of ancient Chinese mainstream culture, have been highlighted and advocated by the literate people and scholars of different ages in virtue of their abundant cultural connotation, unnegligeable instructional function, and profound aesthetic value. In high school Chinese teaching, however, the teaching of ancient fictions haven't been given enough attention either in classroom teaching or in extracurricular reading assignments. The embarrassing predicament in the teaching of ancient fictions ascribes to utilitarian ideology, disoriented teaching practice, outdated teaching research, and lumbersome academic burden. This teaching situation has seriously impacted on the enhancement of the students'reading ability, the promotion of the students'cultural cultivation, and especially on the development of the wholeness of students'personality. What's more, the teachers'ignorance of the problem is more fretting. The teachers of Chinese are always complaining that the students'cultural bearing and literate quality are on the decrease. But they are supposed to reflect on the question whether the ignorance of ancient fiction reading teaching in their teaching methodology results in the detachment between the students and traditional excellent culture and whether the tie between the students and traditional culture has been cut off. Certainly it cannot be solved within a short period, but it is strongly recommended that we take actions rather than keep on complaining. In view of the concept of people-oriented and with an effort to transform the current situation, the author of the thesis paper proposes a new methodology and a fresh idea based on personal teaching experience, successful teaching experience home and abroad.
