An important part of American educational reform is the reform in the education of teachers. Teacher's education has gone through the process from normal school, normal college to college in university. Teacher's education, which was formerly not related to university education, gradually emerged with university education with the development of economy and technology. University education played an important role in teacher's education, promoting it to be more academic and socially accepted. In the 50s and 60s of this century, education of teachers in university has become the main trend. After the 80s, the education of teachers became expertise and has made some prominent improvements. Resulting from the professional education, the teacher's education develops in the effective way, which is instructive to other countries and helpful to the present reform carried out in our country.This thesis examines this issue from historical perspective and with comparison and references, analyzes the process of American teacher's education and its present reform and development, trying to dig out some laws and experiences.This thesis is composed of six parts.The first part introduces the reason of choosing this subject, the significance of this subject, the present research and some basic conception.The second part is a review of American teacher's education history. It looks back on the process that American education has gone through, from normal school, normal college to universities.The third part introduces the process of American teacher's education in the period from the end of 19th century to the 20th century and the one from before the second world war to the 80s after the war, a period of professionalism.The forth part introduces the reform and development of American teacher's education after the 80s. It relates in detail the function of university in teacher's education and some new trend if reform and development, discussing related characteristics.
