| In recent years, minority parents have shown great interest in their children's education in Chinese. In Southern Xinjiang, lots of weiwuer families have sent their children to Chinese schools. On selection of schools for minorities, there have been two voices. One is that minorities should enter ethnic schools so to keep their own culture, the other is that combined schools can help the children adapt to the modern multi-national society, enhance the understanding and communication between different ethnic groups, and hence raise their competitiveness in the society. Will there be a common ground for the two sides on merging of the schools? Can there be a win-win solution that while keeping their cultural heritage, the minority students can still master the skills for modern life? What do the parents, the students and the teachers think of the merging system? This is what this paper tries to address. This paper, Study of the Merging System of Ethnic Schools with Chinese Schools, on Module of Xinjiang Experimental Middle School, based on survey of over 200 minority and Chinese students, as well as interviews with parents, teachers and administrators in different school systems, tries to analyze their attitudes towards the merging system through the social and cultural evolution, especially in areas of combinednationalities and combines schools. From development of the merging system, with views of culture and education, this paper addresses the advantage and practical problems of the merging system, and proposes new thoughts of solution. |
