This thesis, by analyzing the historical material, explores the condition of non梖ormal education in Shanghai of late Qing Dynasty. It is well to known that the change of the whole education system of Ch i na had begun from I ate Q i ng dynasty. Shanghai,because of the history environment, took the lead and established itself the most important position as the focus of the whole country's education. As part of theEducation, non--Formal education is of great importance .By doingresearch on non--formal education, We are able to get to know about theconditions of society,such as moral standard , merchandise andeconomy and so on. On the other hand, non--formal education couldimprove the people's ability, promote the development of the society and economy.In conclusion, although we always have great different opinions about Chinese traditional education, It is still valuable to stay it. I hope that this thesis will give us lessons and enlightenment to promote the development of the Chinese education.Except the preface, this thesis are composed of four parts: Part one: the history environment of late Qing dynasty that haveimportant effect on non---formal education. In late Qing dynasty, withdevelopment of economy and merchandise, the change of the moral standard, the appearance of new kind of mass media, the construction of the I ibrary ,We have to admit that non---formal education is in favorites i tuat i on.Part two : This thesis pay attention to reflecting the generalconditions of non---formal education in Shanghai of late Qingdynasty .which included the curriculum of non---formal education, themanagement system of non---Formal education, the teaching method ofnon---formal education. The thes i s se I ected two non---formal educationali nst i tut i on wh i ch were representat i ve at that t i me and compared each otherin order that reader can understand the non---formal education in Shanghaiof late Qing dynasty more better.Part three : Th i s part i s the thorough theory ana I ys i s of non---forma Ieducation in Shanghai of late Qing dynasty .The ana lysis include four part : time , space, situation, teacher so that we can summarize thecharacter i stic and problem of non---formal education in Shanghai of lateQing dynasty .Part four: it discussed the trace of the non---formal education inShanghai of late Qing dynasty .On the other hand , the thesis put forward some suggestions to the construction of the modernnon---formal education .
