By employing the methods of literature summary, interviewing specialist, logical analysis and comparison, the present study aims at probe into the main thread of thought of the PE curriculum development in Chinese secondary and primary school since the reform and opening. This study also summarizes the experience and problems generated from the process of PE curriculum development. In so doing, the author intends to provide systematic material for enhancing the research of PE curriculum and to offer beneficial references to the reform of Chinese present PE curriculum as well as to the theoretical construction of physical education.For example, we have adhered to the socialist direction in PE curriculum and set up its administrative system with unity and diversity. We have also established thebasis status of PE curriculum and its guiding ideology------health comes first. What'smore, we have laid stress on developing various functions of PE curriculum and on integrating the unity and flexibility of its content.The author also thinks that there are some problems in the development of PE curriculum. For instance, PE curriculums of different school years are more or less the same. The levels of course goal are not clear and difficult to operate. The content of PE teaching material is outdated and is repeated at the low level. The PE teaching is teacher-centered, neglecting the development of students' individual character. The evaluation of the practice of PE curriculum is single and monotonous.Concerned with the problems mentioned above, the author puts forward the following countermeasures: the goals of curriculum must be stated according to different levels; we should choose the curriculum content in accordance with students' characteristics of physical and mental development; we should also adopt various organized forms for PE curriculum and employ comprehensive evaluation methods.
