The aim of this research is to investigate the problems of teacher in-serviced training of the private schools and the reform of using documents, questionnaires and interviews as the research methods. The purpose of this thesis is to inquire into the importance of teacher in-serviced training of Macau private schools and analyze the situation and problems of in-serviced teacher training in Macau. In order to have a closer look of this situation, questionnaires, investigations and interviews are used to review the expectation of the teachers to those training courses, the support from the headmen of the private schools and the side impacts which affecting the participations of the private school teachers. From the thesis, the in-serviced teaching training has a close relationship to the uniqueness of Macau historical background. After the Sino-Portuguese Declaration at March of 1987, the Portuguese government had to reform the education policies base on the political factors. From this onwards, the Macau Government began to have changes upon the educational laws in Macau. So the Macau teaching training did not keep in pace with other countries and caused the followed up problems of the unequal distribution of education resources, the insufficiency of schooling equipment, and the large-sized classes. These problems are all left unsolved. Therefore, with the help of modern technologies, the teacher training service is an important key to improve and upgrade the quality of teachers. It is necessary to have the supports from different classes so that the teaching training services can be put into practice effectively. Although the development of Macau Education has gradually stepped into "systematization" and "professionalization", there are still some unsolved problems. According to the questionnaires and interview from the thesis, there are quite a number of factors affecting the particpation of teacher training. It was believed that the policies made by the Macau Government, the existing laws in coordinating with the policies of teacher training, lack of encouragement and protection to teacher, and teacher's benefit is another crucial factor. Besides, the teacher training courses do not really meet the needs of teachers. Lastly, not many schools show their positive attitudes to the teaching in-serviced training while teachers' willingness and enthusasisum is also a factor as well.As a conclusion, there are a number of factors contributing to the problem of teacher in-serviced training in Macau. These only are solved by the co-operation from Education Department, private schools as well as the teachers themselves. The teacher in-serviced training will be well developed if the above barriers are taken away.
