The problem about the subject status of students is the basic theoretical matter that has being paid a great deal of attention to by the modern education theories. On the basis of absorbing the achievement that already existence, combining with the language teaching practice, the thesis carries out the further study on this problem and advances some new standpoints and views.At first, the author thinks that language teaching plays a core role in curriculum. The core status lies in the fact that language is related with the significance of human beings. Therefore, compared with other curriculum, language teaching has the need for the subject status more inherently and essentially.Then the author emphasized that the fundamental value of language education is that of life development. Because the value of life development can be attained only through the activity of the thing-in-itself, the author carries further study to ponder the subject status of students from the view of philosophy, psychology, pedagogy, linguistic.At last the author put forward three suggestions on how to improve the subject status in language teaching practice. First, language teaching must show double solicitude for culture and humanity. Second , only through practice can student master the rule of language. Third, students must gain the conception of viewing the situation as a whole.
