Girls’high school had been a main channel of women receiving formal schooling since the modern times to the first half of the twentieth century. It was also a symbol of women and men having the equal access school education. After the 1950s, coeducational became the mainstream school education, but many countries still retained some single-sex schools. Girls’high school is an important part of girls schools. Following the recovery of Shanghai No.3 girls’high school, some other girls schools have been rebuilt or founded in the past thirty years. The views around building girls school are controversial. The paper focuses on girls’high school as the main object because academic research on this field is relatively sparse. I hope the paper will bring about realistic impact theoretically and practically.This paper first reviews the origin and development of the Chinese girls school, early girls’ high school had many positive social effects, especially on the evolution of women status, the change of women values,the development of women education, etc. Secondly, this paper focuses on the analysis of the current situation of domestic girls high school, selecting several representative girls schools and analyzing their educational goals, training objectives, curriculum, student management and campus culture construction. The survey on the students of Shanghai No.3 girls’high school indicates a positive influence of girls high school on the students. The author concludes that contemporary girls’high school meets the demand of a more diversified education and helps the realization of female value in the modern society. However there are many problems in running and managing a girls’school. For example, whether it should advocate "teaching students according to their sex" in the middle school stage remains debatable. and some people treat girls school with considerable skepticism.There is also the competition in educational markets, the irreducible unitary evaluation system and limited experience to draw from. This paper tries to put forward some strategies suitable for today’s domestic girls high school development, such as working out clearer school goal, designing a curriculum suitable for female students’development, changing the traditional teaching, creating a humanistic campus culture, and seeking the government support, etc. In the end, we hope to promote female education development and the realization of education justice through the study of the domestic girls high school.
