In 20 Century 90, the international geography education made a significant breakthrough. The concept "Integrating geography teaching and life, making geographical teaching life" was proposed and became a new direction of the geography teaching reform. In 2001, the idea “learning the geography which is useful for the life” was developed in a full-time compulsory education geography curriculum standards(Experimental Version) set down by Ministry of Education of P.R.China. To put this idea into effect rapidly, improve the quality of geographical teaching and foster interest in geography, this idea is widely carried out in many schools.A survey on the implementation of teaching has been conducted for the geography teachers and students in the school where I have a practice opportunity.The data has been collected and analyzed by the questionnaires of teachers,interviews for teachers and students and teaching achievement report, aiming at understanding the implementation of life oriented teaching of geography. Through the investigation and analysis results, the author finds that the promotion of this idea is in the initial stage in Dalian. The main problems may be the lack of regional characteristics in teaching content and region-based textbooks. The other reason is the problem of aging teacher. This fact leads to the lack of research and innovation ability. Therefore, the traditional teaching method is still repeated. The single evaluation method is also limited to the college entrance examination oriented education mode.This dissertation first introduce the education theoretical basis to support this idea through the analysis of previous literature, education theories, definition of "learning to live useful geography"; Secondly, the existing problems are analyzed by the investigation and analysis of the implementing this concept; Thirdly, taking the industrial the location for example, a class is designed follow this principle. Lastly,some suggestions are put forward to promote the implementation of this idea from the teaching content and method and evaluation method.
