| Hundreds of years passes since the creation of Qigong, which has now formed a system recognized and accepted by the masses. Deriving from traditional Chinese culture, it is nurtured by the traditional aesthetics. Its beauty originates in the ancient farming activities and absorbs cream from ancient Chinese philosophy and aesthetics with a form of ancient witchcraft which has been inherited by tribal worships and celebrations. As a traditional sport event, its athletic attribute meets the demand of people’s wishes for a strong and healthy body which plays an active role in improving people’s quality of life; its humanistic attribute not only enriches the contest of Chinese culture and philosophy but also brings mental benefits to practices. As a treasure combing sports, culture and philosophy, it is worthy to be studied from other aspects.From the aspect of the Aesthetics, this paper analyzes the beginning, evolution and development of Qigong and discusses the reason why the qigong has aesthetic beauty, the aesthetic elements in qigong, the characteristics of qigong, as well as the aesthetic values it contains. Following are the main perspectives of this paper:(1) The reasons why qigong is aesthetic are that it is rooted in the traditional Chinese culture; The change of body is the foundation of the beauty of Qigong; A broad application is the prerequisite of the wild spread of Qigong. The abundant material guarantee a various aesthetic elements in qigong.(2) The main aesthetic elements of qigong are the beauty of symmetry, posture, softness as well as vigor of sport activities, the philosophic beauty of "people oriented oneness" and the classic beauty of "awesomeness" etc.(3) The specific beauty of qigong lies in its beauty of health which is rooted in its essence of strengthen the body. The beauty of spiritual environment rooted in the culture and philosophy. The beauty of rhythm rooted in its features of softness. The beauty of gentleness reflects the smoothness of gestures and movements.(4) Specifically, the aesthetic beauty of qigong can be reflected on the seeking of aesthetic elements, enrichment of knowledge, the analysis of aesthetic features, exploration of its development, and improvement of research system, reinforcement of aesthetic sense of people as well as the promotion of qigong’s spread among the masses.Qigong has a long history of about thousands of years. It is not only an existing symbol of traditional Chinese sport but also an unique cultural carrier, the multi-angle and multi dimensional research on qigong will do good to its sustainable development. |
