Performance assessment as a new tool of evaluation has been concerned by education experts classroom teachers because it helps to advance the process assessment. The purpose of this research is mainly to study and be familiar with the theories about performance assessment, then to do teaching practice and draw conclusions. Thus, enriching the existing biological teaching evaluation methods, and proposed strategies for first-line teachers for their performance assessment in biology teaching and learning in high school.This study mainly solved the problems involved in three aspects: First, what is the theoretical basis of performance assessment? How to understand the basic meaning of performance assessment? Second, what are the objective necessities when carrying out performance assessment in biology teaching and learning in high school. Third, what is the process of applying performance assessment? What can we think and obtain from the application of performance assessment practice?In chapter II, I tried to answer the first aspect questions, by analyzing the contents related to evaluation in constructivist theory, multiple intelligence theory and cognitive learning theory. I want to explore the enlightenment of these theories in performance assessment of biology teaching and learning. In chapter III, I mainly analyzed and discussed the second aspect question--- the objective necessities of applying performance assessment.In chapter IV and V, I systematically combing the specific application process of performance assessment in biology classroom teaching in high school both from the theoretical and practical point of view respectively. This is the response to the problems of the third aspect.In chapter IV, each step of carrying out performance assessment is described in details. In Chapter V, through the research of two typical practice cases- "Application of Performance Assessment in Trying to Produce Physical Models of Three-dimensional Structure of Eukaryotic Cells" and "Application of Performance Assessment in Analyzing of the Cause of Increased Incidence of Diabetes and Its Prevention", I try to provide a viable paradigm to performance assessment in biology classroom teaching and learning in high school, and I attempt to establish a performance assessment system of high school biology to improve the ability of applying the method of diversified evaluation, and to improve the ability of students’ active learning, active development.I found in this research that the application of performance assessment is very workable in biology teaching and learning in high school. Students’ interest in learning biology is enhanced when performance assessment is applied. Performance assessment can greatly improve the high school students’ core literacy of biology subject.
